$330 a Week for Uni Students on Placements – Big Win Starting July 2025…

From that date, 1 July 2025, a number of Australian students will get one of the really big uplifts in finance via the new $330 weekly payment. The scheme named the Prac Payment is meant for those undergoing unpaid practical training, including those in teaching, nursing, and social work programs. It has been truly welcomed as some saving grace for students juggling more than study and paid work.

Who Will Receive the Weekly Payment?

The $330-a-week payment will go to eligible full-time university students undertaking a compulsory practical placement necessary to complete their course.

These payments will prioritize those from low-income households or those living in remote areas who have additional costs during the placement such as travel, accommodation, and loss of income from part-time work. The government has stated that students must meet eligibility criteria pertaining to residency and enrolment to access support.

Purpose Behind the Cash Boost

For years, students in important professions have complained about the lack of pay for their placements, mostly working full time for little or no pay. This new payment resolves the inequity by recognizing practical training as a real workforce.

Further, this is to prevent potential financial reasons for students dropping out, thereby causing more timely completions and retention in some important sectors like health and education.

How To Access The Prac Payment

Students with valid claims will be able to apply through Services Australia from 1 July onwards. Applications require proof of enrolment, placement dates of the course, and financial details.

Once accepted, payments will be made every week throughout the placement period. Students should start gathering their documents as soon as possible to avoid delays in processing.
