Singapore is introducing a S$3,600 Smart Family Bonus in 2025 to support both working parents and child-care. Announced under the aegis of the Smart Nation umbrella, it is primarily to inculcate responsible use of technology, digital learning, and online safety so-called within family settings. It is also an indication of the growth in attention of the government towards readying the family for a tech-filled future.
Who Are the Best Candidates Who Earn the S$3,600 Bonus
This bonus is available to Singaporean household whose children are schooling, while one parent or guardian is also undergoing digital literacy training. Further preference would be given to those families that earn less than S\$10,000 per month and those families residing in HDB flats. Families shall have to register for approved parenting courses along with fulfilling the income and child enrollment requirements of the course.
How the Bonus of S$3,600 Will Be Paid
The payout of the bonus will be staggered over the year. Ineligible families will receive credits in Singpass-linked accounts or through some school platforms under mutually agreed terms. The credits would be redeemable for purchases of digital learning devices, software subscriptions, cybersecurity, and child safety software. The first payout is expected to go out in July 2025, with the next scheduled for quarterly top-ups.
Why So Called “Smart”?
It is an incentive program that requires that there be active involvement in digital parenting solutions. Families work through a series of online modules concerning screen-time management, digital well-being, and cyber hygiene, and upon certification level, they will be eligible to unlock the funds. The aim is to shore up digital literacy within the home as the last buffer in equipping parents to help their children into the growing online world.
